Olympic Games in China 2008

Today is AD 2008 August 08. The time was 8pm and 8 minutes. This is the most auspicious date in the lunar calendar. In short, its 08.08.08 08.08 and it is all 8. Meaning fortune! Plenty of fortune!

Today also marks the day of the starts of the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. It is one of the most watched event globally, of course, apart from World Cup, which is also held every 4 year once. The previous Olympic Games was held in Athens, Greece in 2004 and the next one will be held in London, Great Britain in 2012.

I watched the 4 hours of the show with great enthusiasm and of course, in hoping to see a great opening ceremony. Like many other opening ceremony of global sporting events, including the World Cup 2006 held in Germany, Asian Games in Doha and the previous Euro Cup this year.

The main venues that are involved in this Olympic Games China are Beijing National Stadium, Beijing Aquatic Center, Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center for sailing events and Hong Kong for equestrian events. The design of the venues are also state of the art and its breathtaking. The national sports center is also named as Birds Nest while the Aquatic Center is known as Ice Cube!

Stars and athletes from all around the world comes to a single point in the world makes my day. I saw Roger Federer representing Swiss, Rafael Nadal in Spain, Fernando Gonzalez in Chile, Kobe Bryant in USA, Yao Ming in China and etc etc. I even saw individuals like George Bush, president of USA and Vladimir Putin, ex president of Russia. Nations such as Israel, Iraq and Palestine coming to represent themselves in Olympics. Simply marvelous!

The opening ceremony itself is out of the world! Its almost god-like show. Sarah Brightman and Liu Huan performing together. Torch bearer flying in the air around the stadium to complete the journey of lighting up the torch that have travelled more than 100,000 km around the globe?

Check out the photos from the opening ceremony (pictures are grabbed from sina.com) The magnificent show of the fireworks around the city and around the stadium, the performance of the drums with LED lights brightening the stadium, the tai chi kung fu show, the rowing of the boat representing the dragon boat festival, the emperor show and other chinese culture!

Enjoy the pictures and let the imagination of grandeur runs wild in your mind. It is simply the best! I love the show! Look at the amount of people involved! Look at the designs and choreography by Zhang Yimou! OMG!

I love it! Thanks to the Sina.com, that even though i am unable to make it physically to Beijing and experience it, i am able still to feel how the atmosphere feels like from the TV and the pictures taken.

Simply the best!
